Eugenia Buchanan was born on July 15, 1905, in Atlanta, Georgia. At that time her father, Claude Eugene Buchanan, was 33 and her mother, Corinne Margaret Swift, was 24.
Eugenia sang professionally (opera mainly) in the late 1930's and 1940's. She obtained her BA from Columbia and MA from Middlebury College (1955) then PhD from University of Madrid in 1961. She taught Spanish at Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio(1962-1967), Flagler College(1967-1968), and at state college in Pennsylvania. Retired 1973. Lived in Beaufort, S.C. and in Green Valley, Arizona before moving to retirement homes in Columbia, S.C. and Laurel, Maryland.
She died on October 20, 1990, in Laurel, Maryland, at the age of 85.
