Nellie R. Klemme was born on March 10, 1871, in Howard, Iowa, the only child of William Henry Parker and Mary Augusta Bolles. She married James Donaldson Parker on August 23, 1892, in Ridgeway, Iowa.
Nellie graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1890 and then attended a private music school in Boston (1890-1891), where she met Eleanor Hodgman Porter, writer of Polyanna series of books. She taught music at St. Charles College in Missouri 1891-1892.
Nellie R. Klemme died on October 31, 1961, in Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of 90, and was buried at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette, Iowa.
